1970s Red Tights and Yarn Ribbons

Red Tights of the 1970s

My friend in red tights and tennis shoes, circa 1971

This is a picture of my friend and her little brother. It was taken in the early 1970s when she was living in base housing. I first met her in the late 1970s at a church camp in East Texas. In the fall of 1985, I met up with her again in college. Her father was an avid photographer and took glorious pictures of his kids in the 1970s. His photos are among some of the best pictures of Gen-Xers I’ve ever come across. I am especially in love with this pictures becaues of her red tights or leotards.

Red Tights and other Colorful Stockings

According to Vintage Everyday, colorful stockings became popular in the 1960s due to advancements in textile dyeing. Their popularity continued into the 1970s. When I was in the third grade, my mom made me navy and red plaid jumper. I wore it with a red turtle neck and red tights in my 3rd-grade picture. The tights turns my white underwear pink.

😂

My friend is also wearing the classic yarn hair ties. They were marketed and String Tie Headband and Tie Tails. In addition, they were marketed as Doodles in Australia.
