miXtape 80s musical premiers in San Diego

What’s not to love about a mixtape 80s musical?

Just nothing!

MiXtape: The Musical Journey Through the 80s is a journey of more than 70 tunes from the 1980s. I love that the X in miXtape is capitalized as a tribute to Generation X..

The musical, by Jon Lorenz (check out this guy’s Facebook profile photo) and Colleen Kollar Smith, features eight of the San Diego region’s best actors and one of the city’s hottest bands. Music from the 80s includes all the usual suspects: Genesis, Dire Straights, Paul Simon, Journey, The Cure, U2, Duran Duran, Amy Grant, the B52s, Tears for Fears, Billy Joel, Madonna, Sting, Michael Jackson and much more.

miXtape is a project of the Lamb’s Players, one of Southern California’s leading non-profit performing arts organizations. Performances are held in two theatres, one in Coronado and the other in downtown San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter. Their mission is to tell good stories well.

The San Diego Union Times gave miXtap the Critics Choice. Another review by North Times out of the San Diego region called it full of energy, but longish and in need of some work.

The Lamb’s Players previously presented Boomers, a “popular and oft-reprised musical revue of 1960s songs and societal memoirs.” Let’s hope the reprisal of miXtape makes it to the Heartland.

What song would you expect to hear in the miXtape 80s musical?
